No One Voice
When doing #diversity, #equity and #inclusion (DEI) work, there can be no one voice.
We all bring our own experience, and with those, our own understanding of identity. Thus, my #DEI work would not be successful if my voice was the only voice in the room. My collaborators are essential to my success.
Today’s GROW a DEI consultancy Conversations podcast, “Rethinking Agency Hierarchy,” introduces Dr. Joanna Jenkins and Dr. Kevin Thomas, as they share their thoughts about the future of the #advertising industry and some big picture thinking around DEI within #AdvertisingAgencies.
Kevin is my former colleague and one of the founders of Race in the Marketplace a research network that pushes academic boundaries by building bridges to industry and challenging the status quo. Joanna is my new co-author for the 6th edition of Advertising Creative. She’s a designer by training and someone who really understands HBCU’s having both attended and taught at them.
We discuss thoughts about the future of the ad industry, specifically exploring what a diverse, equitable and inclusive advertising agency could look. We also consider how the advertising industry can maintain its competitive edge and leverage that edge to build relationships with diverse consumers and diverse talent. Finally, vulnerability can’t be avoided when discussing these topics. So, let’s push reset and break down the out-moded, hierarchal structures that too often, still, frame advertising agencies.
Take a listen — because there is no one voice.
